Firstly, What Causes Hair Loss?
Hair loss can affect everyone, so you’re definitely not alone if you’re struggling with losing hair. And FYI, aging isn’t the only cause for hair loss either (but that’s something we can all look forward to later!)
Factors such as hormone function, stress, restrictive diets, medical conditions, childbirth, and genes can all cause hair loss. Even excessive hairstyling such as perms and bleaching can result in thinning hair.
How To Make Hair Loss Oil At Home
Some hair loss products out there promise to thicken, lengthen and strengthen thinning hair. But they also come with a bunch of side effects and ingredients we can’t even pronounce.

If you want to avoid harmful chemicals and their potential side effects, opt for a natural alternative that works wonders on thinning hair. And even better, it’s one you can DIY from the comfort of home!
Essential Oils For Hair Loss
Essential oils are derived straight from plants through a process called distillation. Once distilled, essential oils are the liquefied versions of the plants, and they have a ton of medicinal benefits!
They can help stimulate the scalp, increase blow flow, and kill bacteria. And they contain antimicrobial and antibacterial properties which nourish the hair follicles.
And the bonus? Essential oils deliver a delightful aroma and relaxing scent experience. After you’ve used them in your DIY hair oil, you can repurpose them for your diffuser! It’s truly a win-win.
The Six Best Essential Oils For Your Hair
Lavender Essential Oil
This sweet-scented oil is one of the most popular essential oils available and has gained attention for its ability to strengthen and lengthen tresses. Lavender oil is said to stimulate hair growth, soothe an itchy scalp, and fight dandruff. Because of its antibacterial properties, it gets to work clearing toxins from your hair follicle, resulting in boosted hair growth.
Rosemary Essential Oil
This crisp essential oil is known for its three incredible benefits. Its anti-inflammatory properties, the ability to promote nerve growth, and its ability to improve circulation. Because rosemary essential oil increases circulation, it helps hair follicles get adequate blood supply, stopping them from drying off and falling out.
Tea Tree Essential Oil
This popular essential does wonders for treating hair and skin issues, and you’ve likely seen it formulated in a number of your beauty products! Tea tree oil prevents the build-up of dead skin and dirt on your scalp, which helps maintain healthy hair growth. Because tea tree oil has antifungal and antibacterial properties, it also fights dandruff and a dry, flaky scalp.
Peppermint Essential Oil
This minty essential oil is often used as a remedy for hair loss because it is a vasodilator. Vasodilators, like peppermint oil, help increase blood flow to the hair follicles. That is important because hair loss often happens due to poor blood circulation to hair follicles. Thus, peppermint oil can get to work treating the potential cause of hair loss right away. On top of that, peppermint oil is insecticidal, pesticidal, and anti-inflammatory!
Cedar wood Essential Oil
This woodsy oil may not be as popular as its other essential oil counterparts, but that doesn’t mean it’s not just as powerful. Cedar wood oil is said to curb hair loss by balancing the oil-producing glands in the scalp to promote new hair growth. Additionally, its powerful pesticide qualities fight off fungi that may prevent your hair from growing long and strong.
Lemongrass Essential Oil
This divine-smelling essential oil has powerful anti-inflammatory qualities that help improve various scalp conditions for healthy hair growth. Lemongrass oil boosts cellular regeneration to extend your hair’s life cycle, keeping your hair healthy and strong for longer. Plus, it provides a deep clean to the scalp, removing dirt and pollutants in the hair follicles.
How To Make Hair Loss Oil With Essential Oils
Making your own hair loss oil at home with essential oils couldn’t be easier. All you need is your favorite essential oils and a carrier oil.
A carrier oil is what carries the essential oils to your scalp. Because essential oils are so potent, the carrier oil helps prevent irritation and overexposure to the powerful essential oils.
Our favorite carrier oils are coconut oil, Argan oil, and jojoba oil, all of which are gentle, hydrating, and nourishing to the scalp.
